Itinerary 2 - Town & Country

A day visiting a National Trust site and a garden centre near to Shrewsbury and time in the historic town centre.

10am

Arrive. Set down passengers in Barker Street. Public toilets nearby. Cafes opposite and nearby in Mardol and The Square.

Indoor market (Tues, Weds, Fri, Sat) nearby beneath the clock tower.


10.30am
Guided Walking tour from Barker Street (or other starting point of your choice). Allow about 90 minutes to explore the historic town centre with an official Shrewsbury Town Guide – history, stories and anecdotes – information and entertainment in one.

12 noon
Allow free time for shopping, lunch and exploring the historic town centre. Shrewsbury has a remarkable number of interesting independent shops and plenty of cafes and restaurants.
1.30pm
Depart from Barker Street. Drive to Atcham four miles east of Shrewsbury on B4380.
2pm

Visit Attingham Park, one of Britain’s finest Regency mansions, now in the care of the National Trust. Regency interiors with silver, furniture and paintings; costumed guides; kitchen & servants hall; landscaped deer park; shop and tea room.
Tea room 11.30am – 5pm and House 1pm – 5pm Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat, Sun 25 Mar – 29 Oct.

4pm
Depart Attingham. Drive three miles back towards Shrewsbury along B4380.
4.20pm
Arrive Percy Throwers Garden Centre. Extensive Garden and Leisure Centre run by the daughters of the late Percy Thrower, celebrity gardener and Shrewsbury’s Parks Superintendent for 28 years. Cedar Tearooms.
5pm
