Itinerary 1 - A Day in Shrewsbury
10am
Arrive. Set down passengers in Barker Street. Public toilets nearby. Cafes opposite and nearby in Mardol and The Square.
Indoor market (Tues, Weds, Fri, Sat) nearby beneath the clock tower.
11am
Guided Walking tour from The Square (or other starting point of your choice).
Allow about 90 minutes to explore the historic town centre with an official Shrewsbury Town Guide – history, stories and anecdotes – information and entertainment in one.
12.30pm
Lunch – there are so many cafes, pubs and restaurants in the town centre that you can let your group choose whatever suits them.
1.30pm
Visit one of Shrewsbury beautiful historic churches:
St. Mary’s – a medieval church with spectacular stained glass spanning the 14th to 19th centuries. Free admission. Open Mon –Fri 10am – 5pm and Sat 10am – 4pm.
Allow about 30 minutes.
And/or Shrewsbury Castle and Shropshire Regimental Museum – Free admission to grounds, admission charge to Museum.
Allow about 30 minutes for grounds and upto 90 minutes for Museum
3pm
Tea – lots of cafes to choose from.
3.30pm
Allow time for shopping. Shrewsbury has a remarkable number of interesting independent shops. Wyle Cop with its black & white timber buildings, boutiques, crafts and interiors shops is particularly attractive.
5pm
Depart from Barker Street
